Izzy the Iguana

The Nature Room recently added a beautiful female Green Iguana to our amazing collection of creatures. She is two years old and nearly 3 feet long. She is an herbivore who really likes broccoli and really dislikes bananas. She spends most of her day basking under her special reptile lights similar to the way that her wild cousins bathe themselves in sunlight. Though she was bred in captivity, her species originates from Central and South America. They are arboreal animals that live close to the water's edge. When swimming, iguanas use their long tails to propel them through the water while their hands and feet dangle at their sides. Though there is evidence that some iguanas eat little snails and grasshoppers in the wild, their diet consists mostly of fresh fruits and vegetables. Come by and visit with Izzy! Mrs. Roy
