April 13th-16th

The week before the Easter holiday was a wonderful one! In Bible, each class watched the movie "The Other Side of Heaven" or "The End of the Spear" which portrays the true life stories of missionaries who were willing to give their lives unto death in service of God. On Thursday, the girls went on a small egg hunt in the front yard of the school. Following our egg hunt, my room mom and I took the girls to Bethany's chinese restaurant to enjoy a fine asian meal and some Bobo tea. We were blessed! In History, we spent the week reading and discussing Winthrop's sermon of puritan ideals to be upheld in the formation of the "city on a hill". This week, we are reading about Anne Bradstreet's poetic works. Our reading will be followed with each student writing a poem of her own using iambic pentameter. In Geography, we have marked the major geographical locations, the early settlements and the influence of the London and Plymouth joint-stock companies to our maps of the United States. Our next step in Geography will be mapping out the names and locations of the Native American tribes before colonial settlements were formed and colonial expansion took hold of America. In Literature, the girls have enjoyed reading Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" especially the scenes in which Romeo declares his love for Juliet. We are also two chapters away from the wonderful conclusion of "Jane Eyre". The class is excited to watch the 1983 version of this classic! In Nature Study, we will be adding a dove to our Nature Notebooks and discussing its' symbolic representation as the Holy Spirit in scripture. Have a great week! Mrs. Roy
