Bible Class Notes

During this school year all of the Upper School classes will be studying the book of John. During the month of September, we are reading J. MacArthur's chapter on the apostle John from his book Twelve Ordinary Men. MacArthur creates a vivid picture of this "son of thunder" which is in stark contrast to the way John is portrayed in medieval paintings. The apostle was explosive and impetuous yet came to be transformed by Christ's teachings. We have also learned that the apostle writes using antithetical language, such as the contrast between darkness and light. I challenged the students to think of an issue they think of in antithetical terms and then explain their reasoning. It was a wonderful discussion for each class. Apart from our text, each student is challenged to memorize the Psalms or at least a portion of each Psalm. The last ten minutes of class is devoted to recitation work. It will be a great year in Bible class! Mrs. Roy
